Ice wine is the child of winter, a rare product born in extreme conditions. Only the hard work, the passion and the complicity of the Nature can create this wonderful wine.The history of this wine dates to the time of the Romans with the harvest of frozen grapes reported by the Latin poet Marco Valerio MARZIALE ( 40 - 130 AD ). It is a well known fact in Germany where experts from this type of vinification "long-forgotten" were revived at the end of the 17th century.The traditional aeras of production in the world are Canada, Austria, Alsace in France, Switzerland, Slovenia and more recently in Piedmont at the north of Italy.

The ICE WINE at Chiomonte:

In 2006, CASA RONSIL decided to join Donna sommelier manager of the project to create the first ice wine ; an exeptionnal winter harvest in the highest vineyards of Europe ! The experiment was supported by the CMAVS ( High SUSA valley mountain community) and the municipality of Chiomonte.Chiomonte is a beautiful place in mountain at an altitude of 750 meters, the micro weather, the typical ingenious grape variety : the Avanà and the Becouet, all of them to combine to be able to make the first production of Ice wine wich is obtain with red grapes ( usuelly ice wines where making with white variety ). Viticulture is an ancestral tradition for the Ronsil familly, the Valsusa and more especially Chiomonte have long been renowned for quality wines, once being primary suppliers of wine to the Roman Empire.
